Embarking on the Otley Run (especially in costume) is a rite of passage for Leeds’s many uni students, but it’s great fun for anyone else too. Once you're out and feeling refreshed, go and explore the town's slew of cool cafes, shops and artsy hubs. Expect great bands, food, comedy, yoga and meditation, as well as the ritualistic burning of a pagan effigy at the end of the weekend.

On a weekend, you’re likely to find a healthy mix of fashion darlings, seasoned locals and tourists rummaging for treasures. Highlights include the beautiful cliffs at Beer, the historic seaside town of Lyme Regis, the sweeping shingle ridge of Chesil Beach, Old Harry Rocks and West Bay’s golden sands. Running from Exmouth in Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, the rocks record 185 million years of the Earth’s history – and they look pretty good, too. Once you’ve wandered around the historic site, head to Thermae Bath Spa for your own chance to wallow in Bath’s warming waters.

The biggest month-on-month audience declines were at Nottinghamshire Live (down 20.3% to 3.6 million) and Radio Times (down 18.7% to 6.1 million). The biggest month-on-month audience growth in June was at Reach regional Devon Live, which was up by a third to reach 5.3 million people. Reach sister title the Mirror was up 2.8% month on month but down 8% year on year to 20.7 million. The Daily Express was the biggest winner in the top ten by audience, rising by 2.2% month on month but 31% compared to June last year, reaching 18.5 million.

The list

LBC saw the second-biggest month-on-month growth in time spent across its platforms, up 47% to 45.9 million minutes, but was down 30% compared to March 2024. To create this list, Press Gazette used Ipsos’ ranking of the top online brand groups and selected the 50 biggest that Press Gazette considers to be based in journalistic content of any genre. This means Substack now reaches 6% of the UK population, more than US news website CNN which dropped off the top-50 list in March.

University of Manchester

US-based newsbrands led month-on-month audience growth in the UK in November, according to the latest data from Ipsos iris. Forbes saw the biggest increase month on month in December, up by more than half (52.1% to 12 million minutes), followed by GB News (up 50.9% to 62.4 million) and Hello! Ok saw the biggest year-on-year drop in time spent among Press Gazette’s top 50 list, down 63% to a total 5.5 million minutes.

And top of this list have to be the counties Devon and Cornwall, with their wealth of amazing coastline, coves and cafes! I know the UK has a lot of great pubs and beautiful green spaces for walks but, top of my list in both those categories, it has to be the amazing Yorkshire Dales. With loads of craft breweries springing up across the country, there’s plenty of beers and ales to try, and from traditional boozers to gastro-pub delights, choosing a good spot to sip on one shouldn’t be hard!
